Little E 11 months, Little M 2 yrs 10 months update

Not sure if this post will be totally coherent because I have had almost a week of pretty crappy sleep. We are settling down into 2016, and I have had a hard time keeping everything — childcare, house stuff, cooking, knitting/sewing — in balance. I also have a little personal project that have been ultra distracting. Hopefully the grandparents can make sense of what’s been going on with the boys ^_^

I can’t believe Little E is almost 1! Time has flown. I feel like I have not gotten much done in the past year! But the boys, they have been doing a LOT of growing and developing.

Feeding: Little E is almost off of babyfood, which is a huge step! He wants to eat everything Little M eats, which doesn’t work out a lot of the time, but I am now trying to make food that is not too young for Little M, that Little E can share. We keep a few jars of babyfood just in case, but i think we won’t need them soon.

As Little E is almost 1 year, we are starting to think about weaning. I have already stopped pumping during work, and once the frozen milk runs out, he will only get breastmilk when he is nursing. We are also going to take a stab at night weaning once he is 1.

I am trying to cook enough times a week so that the boys get a good mix of veggies, meats and carbs, but don’t always succeed. One of these days, I will get organized in terms of cooking meals!

Fussy: We are actually doing quite well on fussy. Yeah, both get frustrated, and Little M will have his meltdowns. But generally, I am surprised that we don’t have more screaming and crying.

Sleeping: Just as we get one boy out of our room, the other is back in ours. Little E has been doing really well in the shared room, but Little M has regularly (lately it has been almost every night) crawled into our bed, sometimes without me noticing, in the middle of the night. lovely! He also still takes forever to get to sleep — no matter if we do an early bedtime or later bedtime or everything in between. It is usually 8:30 to 9pm when he is finally asleep, meaning we get a super cranky kid in the mornings.

Little E has been waking quite often overnight which is why I think it might be time to night wean. But he usually will go back to bed with just a little fussing if he nurses, so for now, we are going with that

Potty: Smooth with Little M — besides a few accidents, he is completely independent with using the potty, usually not wanting us to help, and he doesn’t use the booster seat anymore. Little E, we have bee pretty bad with putting him on the potty, especially when we just don”t have a lot of time when we are back from daycare, and that it’s a little chilly still for me to want to leave him without pants for a length of time.

Milestones/New things: Little E has been learning words, and now has about 6 or so that he definitely knows for the correct context. He has started waving goodbye (and still gets upset when Little M and M leave in the morning). He has also been standing independently when he gets too distracted to notice he’s not holding on to anything. We don’t really have a box or crate for him to push around walking — will need to look for that. Little E is also getting better at communicating, using gestures and noises to tell me what he wants to eat, drink or play with.

Little M is getting good at drawing. He can do a number of things including faces, figures, suns, flowers, etc. But coolest of all, he can write a few letters! I know that he won’t be at the level to write his name at 3 yrs old, like one of my girlfriends did, but I am pretty amazed he can do this. He can also count up to around 13 to 14. It’s cute to see him try to count beyond that, cause he starts to make up numbers like “eleven-teen.”

I have also seen Little M really play with his classmates at daycare, not just playing alongside them. It’s ultra cute. I guess soon he will have friends that we need to invite over. ^_^

Play: The boys are playing together! It’s pretty cool to watch, although usually after a bit of playing, they both will fight or start crying or both. oh well. I am trying to encourage this by supervising some of the play, but it is not working so well yet. M has managed to do wrestling with both of them, but otherwise, they need to play independently

Little E is loving stacking cups (and tupperware and buckets and pretty much anything stackable). He is also starting to get into riding on rocking horses and tricycles, but only at daycare. But he has no chance at home because Little M will not share — boo!

Little M is really ramping up on the pretend play, including pretending he is different people, having imaginary people and objects around, and “taking care” of a little stuffed dollie (including breastfeeding, which is soooooooo funny). We

Mommie: Needing to get stuff organized because it seems lately, I have not been getting much hobby stuff done, thus not so many posts about sewing or knitting projects. Hopefully things will calm down a bit for me to get some side projects done. Thinking about doing some different types of posts, just to have something for the blog, but not decided yet.

Oh, and my first whole day away from Little E is later this week — I have a meeting out of town. We will see how that works!
